Personality: Hyun is that cool Asian kid at the lunch table who everyone admires, and he’s proud of that fact.  People know him as one of the best dressed and coolest guys at school, the center of his own little popular crowd.  He does his best to keep up with the latest fashions and technology to keep his image, sometimes looking like a dork in his attempts but he always manages to cover it up in the end.  Hyun is easily swayed by his peer’s opinions to guide his next actions, and all the compliments he either received or heard will give him a big head.  This leads to him judging everyone with slight distain.  He’ll get really competitive if someone is better than him, even in terms of height.

It’s easy to see who are his best friends or just acquaintances on first glance.  With acquaintances, he’s polite and distance, gauging them to see if they are cool enough to hang around. However his closest friends didn’t start like that at all, they all managed to bring the real him out and he’s much more animated and expressive with them.  After all, they all know he’s not really that cool.  They know him as the reliable, prideful, and even sometimes shy dude he is.  You have to earn his respect for him to truly treat you as an equal.  

Biography: Up till the end of primary school, Hyun grew up essentially alone.  His father worked from early morning to late night, and his mother died giving birth to him.  His older sisters, Jin-Eun and Hye-Eun were often away from home as well, occupied with school, clubs, parties, boys etc.  Their social life was very much alive and kicking compared to the quiet Hyun-Sik who stayed home all day after school and learned to take care of himself. Every move he made echoed around the house, through the deserted hallways and rooms.  He couldn’t take it for long, the silence was deafening.  Music was the answer to everything.  Hyun-Sik always played his music nice and loud, loud enough for a burglar to just waltz right through the front door.  The singers never failed to comfort him, he wasn’t alone anymore, and the silence was gone.

He soon began to sing his heart out to the songs that gave him comfort, it came naturally.  He even dug out the old piano from his basement and learned how to play songs through video tutorials he found on Youtube.  His budding talent did not go unnoticed though, he was discovered by his sisters when they came home early one day playing the piano and singing.  He was even discovered by a classmate, an avid dancer named Nick, while singing at school.

Speaking of school, as Hyun entered secondary school his more of his peers took notice of his quiet and fashionable presence (due to his sister’s style influence).  People, especially pubescent girls, began to talk of his cool nature and his singing talent.  A certain feeling started to bud in Hyun.  No one had ever called him cool before (his sisters didn’t count even if they told him this all the time) and as time continued to turn he made an effort to keep up this image. Eventually it started to merge with his own personality, though he still had Nick to keep him grounded.  

As Hyun’s popularity grew, he and his best friend set their sights set out on a Kirin Arts School, a famous performing arts school in South Korea that has produced many idols.  With auditions for the next school year arriving soon, Hyun-Sik and Nick spent all their spare time practicing, perfecting their pieces to ace the live audition.  Fate had other ideas for Hyun-Sik though.   His father had received a transfer to Japan.  On the day of the auditions, Hyun-Sik came to see his friend off and wish him good luck in the audition before catching a plane to Japan.  Nick tried to convince Hyun-Sik to stay, that he can stay with his family for the rest of High School.  But Hyun-Sik couldn’t go.  He couldn't go against his father, who worked all day, to chase a silly little dream of becoming a star.  Ultimately, he gave up.

From that day on, there were no covers, no piano, no singing.  He focused, as much as he could, on learning Japanese.  His father was too busy to notice but his sisters, Jin-Eun and Hye-Eun, thought it was a terrible waste of talent.  They found the best musical arts school in Japan, Saotome Academy, and immediately signed Hyun-Sik for an audition.  Hyun-Sik refused, saying that he’d rather go to a regular Japanese high school and try to get a job as an engineer or something to support the family.  He was always good with electronics, and he knew how to think, so it seemed logical.  Sick and tired of their little brother’s stubbornness, his sisters finally brought out the big guns. 

One morning, Hyun-sik woke up and began to make some breakfast when he saw his father sitting at the dinner table drinking some morning coffee.  The half-awake teen was about to ask why his father was home today but was interrupted.  His father began to ask Hyun-Sik about his future and what he wanted to do in life.  Hyun-Sik began to spout out the nonsense about being an engineer but his father stopped him.  He wasn’t going to take his son’s bullsh*t.  Not today.  He wanted to know what his son really wanted to do in life.  Knowing that he couldn’t escape, Hyun-Sik told his father about his music and how he wanted to share it with the world.  He even showed his father some of his covers.  After a few songs, his father became quiet.  A few nervous moments passed, and his father said to go, to go and sing.  He had seen the application for Saotome Academy on his bed last night and finally saw that this music of Hyun-Sik’s wasn’t just a hobby.  They spent the rest of the day filling out the application and just spending some quality time together.  So, using the audition he prepared for Kirin and the encouragement from his whole family, Hyun-Sik is coming to Saotome Academy for a second chance at his dream.

    ·         Picks up on new concepts quickly, probably the only way he’s getting through school.  Great at sight reading as well.

    ·         He got his fashion sense from his sisters, who are avid fashion designers and makeup artists. 

    ·         He speaks fluent Korean.  His Japanese is halfway decent because of how much he studied when he got to Japan and his English consists of basic expressions.
